‘The global economy has moved on from the Asian Tigers; the present and the future of the global economy now lie elsewhere.’ To what extent do you agree with this statement? (40 marks) The Asian Tigers, consisting of Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan, were the second group of countries to develop after World War II, with the first being Japan. The Asian Tigers were able to develop due to a combination of comparative advantages, including partially existing developed levels of infrastructure, good geographical locations with open access to the sea allowing easy exportation, cheap labour and strong government support. The Asian Tigers were most noted for their rise to power in the 1960-1980s, and were able to develop their country at rates unseen anywhere else in the world at that time. They experienced these decades of supercharged growth mainly from large amounts of exports to developed countries and high levels of internal competition. This gave the countries a vast trade surplus, allowing them to re-invest the money in areas such as infrastructure, creating a positive multiplier effect. At the peak of this development in Taiwan, 1/6 of all people in work had set up, and were currently running, their own business. While the Asian tigers still command significant power in the global economy (all are within the top 40 largest economies), many people would argue that the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) are now the main focus of development and the potential superpowers of the future global economy, with all of these economies being within the top 25 largest economies. While all of them have the potential to be global economic superpowers, with some arguing that China with is current rates of 7% growth and a budget surplus of 10% already is, people must remember that these economies are still developing, and, on their own, cannot be the focus of the global economy alone. The developed economies are driving the development of the BRICS economies, with the USA alone buying over $300 billion of exports from China in 2011. Regardless of where the future global economy is situated, it will have to rely on trade links and globalisation from other developed nations. Purely from the size of the BRICS economies, it is true that the BRICS have overtaken the economies of the Asian Tigers, and that the global economy has moved on from the latter. Despite this, one must remember that this does not necessarily mean that the BRICS countries are more developed. Development encompasses many more factors than economical ones, including political, educational and health. Therefore it is entirely feasible to have the BRICS economies being the future of the global economy, while the Asian Tigers remain more developed. Regardless of the current powers of the Asian Tigers, and the current and potential future powers of the BRICS economies, many people would argue that in the future, the future of the global economy will be in the hand of the oil producing countries, mainly OPEC. With oil becoming scarcer in the future and experts expecting it to run out in about 50 years, the immediate future of the global economy will focus on countries willing to export oil. Despite many developed countries investing heavily in renewable resources, China alone invested $300 billion last year, the results are not yet significant enough for oil to no longer be a necessity. Thus OPEC, who holds 79% of the estimated oil reserves, hold a degree of monopoly power over oil reserves, and will dictate the price in the next 50 years – with the potential effects of cost-push inflation and resulting unemployment being felt all over the world. This shows that wherever the central focus of the global economy is located, they will depend upon oil producing nation, with these nations themselves having the potential to become the focus of the global economy, while oil is still a necessity – when oil runs out, or renewables remove the need for oil, the OPEC countries will have almost power or influence. Countries such as Dubai has realised this fact, and have invested heavily in tourism, and thus Dubai is likely to remain a large part of the global economy than Saudi Arabia, for example, another OPEC country which derives 95% of its total revenue from oil exports. These examples show that the focus of the global economy can shift quickly depending on resources, and that countries wholly dependent on one aspect, in this case exports, are unlikely to remain as an important part of the global economy ones its resources have run out/are not needed. Along with the importance and power of the country itself, people must also consider the power and importance of transnational corporations created in the Asian Tigers, especially the South Korean Chaebols (Daewoo, LG, Hyundai and Samsung). These TNCs still play a large part in the global economy, with these brand names being known around the developed and developing world. It is unlikely that any TNCs from currently developing economies will be able to rival these existing TNCs because of set-up costs and levels of technology needed to produce products which are on par with existing ones. Equally, the existing TNCs have the advantages of brand loyalty and economies of scale which newly formed companies will not yet have. In this respect, certain features of the Asian Tigers are heavily linked to, and will continue to play a large part in the future of the global economy. As well as the TNCs, each Asian Tiger is able to specialise in certain products and services. South Korea specialises in microchips, and has the specialisation and levels of technology to compete with the rest of the world on this front. It is unlikely that any developing or developed countries would try to compete in this market, as South Korea already benefits from economies of scale and large amounts of existing technology to produce these items. If the rest of the world wants to compete, and command a place in the world economy, they either need to invest in research and development, to produce a produce which will be superior to ones already being produced, or focus on mass produced items for a cheaper price than is currently available. Therefore, I would argue that the Asian Tigers still hold a strong place in the global economy, but the future will be more focus on countries which are able to produce new goods which are sustainable. Brazil is currently investing large amounts of money in renewable fuels, and produced 81% of the world’s Biofuel in 2011. Brazil is likely to become one of the major economies in the next 10 years or so, not just in size (currently the world’s sixth largest) but in importance to the development of the rest of the world. It is the only country to have a combination of significant growth, a balanced budget and a continuously diminishing wealth gap, suggesting its future power and importance once it has solved its debt problem of $400 billion. In some cases, it can be easily argued that the world has moved on from the BRICS economies. India is famous (or infamous) for its call centres. Firms initially outsourced these services to India because of its many comparative advanta ges including the second largest English speaking population in the world (after the USA), an average of 60% lower wages and a low income tax rate of about 8-10%, all of which make outsourcing economical. Despite this, many firms have re-located to the Philippines in the last few years – the main comparative advantages over India being; 30% cheaper wages, easier to understand accents and a strong IT network already in place. The Philippines exported $7.6 billion last year, compared to India’s $7 billion. Thus, in some aspects, the world has even moved on from the BRIC countries, meaning the Asian Tigers are several steps behind, in term of the current hub of the global economy. In conclusion, I believe that the present focus of the global economy is mainly on the BRIC countries because they are the ones likely to be the superpowers of the future. Along with the BRIC countries, the future of the global economy will focus on specific hubs, such as OPEC and the countries which are able to develop and produce future necessities for the world – mainly widely useable renewable energy sources. While the Asian Tigers are still influential in the global economy, and the TNCs originally from them play a large part in driving globalisation, I believe that both the present and future of the global economy will focus on the developing economies, rather than the already developed ones.

Although differences in brains, beauty, and brawn are a matter that should not be tied down, there needs to be a limit. Vonnegut shows that individuality can be a downfall because humans do tend to become envious and power hungry. He makes this point in the beginning when Hazel and George were discussing the dark ages†¦with everybody competing against everybody else (Vonnegut 235). People need some type of equality so that one will be able to be an individual and remain just as equal as the next. Vonnegut presents both extremes of equality and inequality and implores society to choose the median. If this median is not met, the world may become a Hell. The Juvenile Boot Camps For Offenders Criminology Essay The United States used to be a nation focused on rehabilitating juveniles that deviated from the social norms (Ardovini-Brooker Walker, 2000). This attitude was dramatically altered in the 1960s when public opinion of the medical model deteriorated and the punishment model started to gain support (Ardovini-Brooker Walker, 2000). This shift in ideals has resulted in an increased popularity of boot camp programs (Gover, MacKenzie, Armstrong, 2000). There has been a great deal of debate as to whether boot camps are more or less successful than traditional detainment facilities at reducing recidivism rates among juveniles (DeMuro, 2008). Despite the lack of empirical evidence that juvenile boot camps are more successful, they continue to gain popularity within the juvenile justice system (DeMuro, 2008). Boot camps are less cost effective, and no more successful at reducing recidivism rates among juveniles, than traditional treatment facilities. The first boot camps used as alternative punishments in the United States were created in Georgia and Oklahoma in 1983 (Tyler, Darville, Stalnaer, 2001). The first boot camp program oriented toward juveniles was created in Orleans Parish, Louisiana in 1985 (Tyler et al., 2001). Between 1985 and 1995, the number of juvenile boot camps had risen to more than 75, spanning across 13 states (Ardovini-Brooker Walker, 2000). Furthermore, Ardovini-Brooker Walker (2000) expected that half of all juvenile jurisdictions in the United States would have boot camp programs in place by the year 2000. There were many factors that gave rise to the popularity of juvenile boot camps. Ardovini-Brooker and Walker (2000) state six objectives of juvenile boot camps. The first objective of the boot camps was to alleviate the overcrowding facilities that were already in place (Ardovini-Brooker Walker, 2000). The second objective was to lower the cost of juvenile treatment by placing the juveniles in a program that took less time to complete (Ardovini-Brooker Walker, 2000). The third objective was to increase the perceived accountability of the juvenile justice system because many thought that it was too lenient with juvenile offenders (Ardovini-Brooker Walker, 2000). The fourth objective was to increase the rehabilitation of the juvenile offenders by placing them in a more structured environment (Ardovini-Brooker Walker, 2000). The fifth objective was to reduce juvenile recidivism rates through shock incarceration (Ardovini-Brooker Walker, 2000). The sixth and final objective of juven ile boot camp programs was to give back to the community by requiring the juveniles in the program to perform duties such as liter pick-up (Ardovini-Brooker Walker, 2000). Both adult and juvenile boot camps were designed for first time or less violent offenders and are considered to be as a type of shock incarceration (DeMuro, 2008). Experts believe that the radical change in behavior that offenders will experience in a boot camp should be enough to scare or à ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€¦Ã¢â‚¬Å"shockà ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ã‚  them straight (Ardovini-Brooker Walker, 2000). Boot camps achieve this radical change by incorporating basic elements of military philosophy (Gover et al., 2000). Juvenile boot camps are supposed to provide intense physical activity and a healthy atmosphere that result in a favorable background for therapy and education (Styve, MacKenzie, Gover, Mitchell, 2000). These boot camps can vary in length of time but are generally between 90 and 120 days (Ardovini-Brooker Walker, 2000). The programs incorporate elements of military boot camps such as uniforms, marching, calisthenics, and running various types of drills (Styve et al., 2000). These elements are supposed to combine to make the boot camp a life changing event for the juvenile offender (Tyler et al., 2001). There are many experts who are opposed to using juvenile boot camp programs as a means of punishment or rehabilitation. These experts point to the fact that there is no empirical evidence that boot camp programs actually reduce recidivism rates and that boot camp programs are not cost effective (DeMuro, 2008; Tyler et al., 2001). Styve et al (2000) stated that boot camps may not provide the necessary care and attention to individuals that is required for rehabilitation to take place. These same experts believe that the system would be better off using the traditional facilities and supervised probation programs already in place (Tyler et al., 2001). The first problem with juvenile boot camp programs that many experts cite is that there is still relatively little empirical data to support the claim that they reduce recidivism rates (Ardovini-Brooker Walker, 2000). The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention [OJJDP] stated that the use of juvenile boot camps has had no effect on the rates of juvenile recidivism (Tyler et al., 2001). Experts in the juvenile justice field believe that this may be a result of the lack of uniformity among the many boot camp programs (Ardovini-Brooker Walker, 2000). Some examples of this lack of uniformity would include: the duration of the boot camp (90-120 days), which of the six objectives the camp is focused on, the type of offender that is sentenced to the boot camp, and whether or not there is an intensive after care program that is used in conjunction with the boot camp itself (Ardovini-Brooker Walker, 2000; Tyler et al., 2001). A second criticism of juvenile boot camp programs is that they are not cost effective. According to OJJDP, juvenile boot camps cost nearly 10 times more than juvenile probation programs per offender (Tyler et al., 2001). In Texas in 1998, the cost per day of a juvenile in a boot camp was $88.62 (Tyler et al., 2001). At the same time, the cost for a juvenile in a traditional treatment facility was $85.90 per day, and the cost of probation per day was $8.44 (Tyler et al., 2001). Taking into account that juvenile boot camps help fewer offenders at a time, Tyler et al (2001) calculated the average cost of a boot camp program per juvenile per year to be $33,480. Further, they calculated the average cost of a traditional detainment facility to be $31,354 per juvenile per year. This, they stated, demonstrates that juvenile boot camps are not a cost effective alternative to using traditional facilities or probation. A third criticism of juvenile boot camps is that not all juveniles are suited mentally enough to handle the environment of a military style boot camp (Gover et al., 2000). There are many juveniles that cannot adjust to the sudden change in culture that is associated with boot camps (Gover et al., 2000). Gover et al (2000) claim that the harsh conditions at boot camps do not provide a stable environment that is healthy for therapy, which is a contradiction of one of the goals of juvenile boot camps. When selecting juveniles for boot camp programs, it is important to choose older youths who are less prone to experience anxiety, as those who are younger or are more prone to experience anxiety are less likely to be responsive to any treatment they may receive in a boot camp (Gover et al., 2000). Over the past few decades, juvenile boot camps have increased in popularity (Ardovini-Brooker, Walker, 2000). This trend has continued despite any lack of evidence that supports the idea that juvenile boot camps reduce recidivism rates (Ardovini-Brooker, Walker, 2000). It has also been shown that boot camp programs are not a cost effective alternative to traditional treatment, particularly when compared to supervised probation (Tyler et al., 2001). Their main goal is to create something special for their audience, or rather call them witnesses. Convincing them that a personal piece of art, whether it be a painting, a novel or a movie, is different than all the rest. Rhetoricians create an author’s idea, their own unique perception of reality, for a vast and diverse viewing audience. The Kings Speech is a movie about talking, and the importance of talking well.The way humans communicate is really the most important challenge we face in our everyday lives. Speaking is hugely important on an intimate, personal level; when the task is to interact with one person. But a leader of a nation has to address all of his subjects, which requires that leader to be able to speak eloquently in a dramatic political context. As Bertie so finely delivers his lines in the closing moments, as King George VI is about to first address his subjects with war on the horizon: â€Å"The Nation believes that when I speak, I speak for them.But I cannot speak. † This superb film is about a person finding his voice, finding that he can speak. The Duke of York, later King George V, a. k. a Bertie is a perfect example of a leader; he has it all except for one thing – he lacks delivery skills. The hero has a single problem, the conflict that needs resolving; any intelligent viewer will keep their eyes on that detail through the entire plot. A well-written story will gradually reveal information, leaving the audience with a thirst to know if and how this issue will be solved.What makes the King’s battle with speech even more powerful is that this specific detail is not only about a speaking impediment that can be a burden to its owner but it is also about the drama in several other layers of the story. As the duke mentions, his people look up t o him as he who speaks for them and in their name. Rhetoric depends upon audience, and Bertie’s impediment was due as much to the pressure of his Imperial audience as it was his horrid father and family in how they treated him and his need for â€Å"corrections. Our hero in this story has to overcome the painful memories that compose his troubled royal childhood. The King’s complex past appeals to the audience’s sense of Pathos, so that every time he stammers over a sentence we remember who and what it is that causes Bertie’s handicap. Seeing the King start to succeed and triumph over his condition appeals to the viewer’s emotions for the same reason, because they have witnessed the cold, harsh environment where Bertie was raised. Audiences rejoice because seeing the main character master their own problems gives them hope and strength to take on personal matters of their own.Another aspect of the King’s troubled past is his relationship with his brother. He lived in the shadow of his brother Edward VIII for much of his life, and Edward was the actual heir to the throne when their father died. However, Edward abdicated the throne when he revealed that he wanted to marry an American socialite. This places further pressure on George VI to succeed in delivering this important speech to prove himself to his family and people as a strong and able leader. This is the look of a desperate man, full of frustration and expectation, praying that this little stick of tobacco will answer all his questions. The scene that follows shows one of many failed treatments by a specialist to cure him of his speech problem. The Duke becomes frustrate d during the treatment and asks his wife, Elizabeth, the Duchess of York (Helena Bonham Carter), to promise that he won't have to see any more doctors.This leads the Duchess of York to secretly visit an unorthodox speech therapist, Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush). Mr. Logue explains to the Duchess that although he is willing to help the Duke, he will only assist on his terms and they must come to him and follow his rules. The Duchess agrees, and sets an appointment. Mr. Logue’s favorite phrase is â€Å"My castle, my rules†, even though he is a commoner, not royalty; someone who is not enough â€Å"regal† to actually own a castle. Yet this speech therapist knows exactly what he is saying.He too recognizes the importance of rules, a frame of reference and a place which is the proper place. If you’ll put him to the rhetoric test you will find he too has it all except for one thing – apparently he is part of no ethos. He is a commoner, and eventually we f ind out he has no credentials; which is even worse than being an Australian in Britain. Logue lacks legitimacy, which he knows is not important for his ability to help others, but is a frustrating disposition if you take his rules seriously.The King looked past Logue’s lack of formal education and abrasive nature because I believe that he sensed something special about the doctor. Plus I believe the Duke and Logue shared a similar love of law and order, and the strict rules Lionel set allowed the Bertie to follow them with ease. These rules forced Bertie to trust the doctor completely, which establishes a strong bond of ethos between the two men. While the person in question happens to have been an English monarch, his trepidations and fears are no different from any public speaking student that Mr.Logue encountered over the years. So, Logue treats Bertie as though he were a regular, stuttering child and expects him to adhere to the same rules as everyone else. This is also a movie about education, as much as it is about politics and royalty. â€Å"Turn the hesitations into pauses,† Logue tells the King in one scene. â€Å"Bounce into it. † Rather than force his student into a mold, the teacher lets the student be the guide. He turns the awkwardness into something better; he re-defines the terms on which the King’s Speech was judged.Indeed, pauses can signify confidence; taking time to choose the right words to say gives the listener the impression that what you have to say is really important. Individuals, groups, businesses, and organizations choose how to use resources . Economics and health care are linked, because health care professionals apply economics in their everyday professional activities. They are able to do this through resource allocation. Any health care organization has to plan out how they will use their resources to their advantage. Health care economics are able to incorporate terms like cost, quality, and resources.In this paper, I will compare these terms as they relate to health care economics. In this paper, I will also explain how they differ from one another. Resources are considered to be any physical thing or virtual element that has limited availability. A resource can also be anything that is used to help people earn a living. There are different types of resources such as human resources, and natural resources. In economics, human resources refer t human capital or employees in an organization (Getzen, 2007).Many times resources are considered to be a means of factors of production. When health care organization is in production of something, natural resources are being used. Resources are usually limited, and most organizations have to look for ways of allocating resources that they need. Resources in health care means that all materials and funds are used to provide health care for people. The term â€Å"resource† has similar meaning in health care and economics. When used in health care, it means that all materials and funds are used to provide health care.When referring to the economic portion of health care, resource means that they are the personnel, the funds, facilities, or any material used in production. Another similarity is that resources are limited and they have value. For example, funds, as well as personnel are limited, and they may hinder delivery of hea lth care services and productivity. Most people prefer to have quality health care. Quality may also have many different meanings. Quality in health care economics means the superiority of something. This can also mean the best of something.Quality in health care can be determined by determining if the health care is a great fit for the person. Quality of health care can be considered as the right treatment for the right illness, and also delivering health care at the right time. Quality in health care economics means to give the best health care possible. Getzen (2007), states that medicine often involves life and death situations (p. 12). In these situations, quality is crucial and quantity is irrelevant (Getzen, 2007). Quality cannot simply be added up or multiplied to arrive at a total spending limit.In medical care, getting more ounces or pounds or boxes or whatever is usually not very important, but getting higher quality is. When referring to health care economics, â€Å"cos t† refers to the funds that are used to deliver health care to patients. Cost can also mean the amount of funds used to access health care or to deliver health care (Getzen, 2007). It is applied in many different ways such as, health care professionals applying economic principles like cost benefit analysis, or cost effect analysis to determine if the choice is good or bad.The principles help the government to provide the best intervention in health care (Getzen, 2007). In conclusion, all the terms are interlinked when discussing health care economics. This is so and will always be so, because health care professionals always apply economic principles in health care. All of these terms help when deciding how to make and provide the correct interventions when making difficult decisions. When referring to resources, it has the same meaning when dealing with health care as well as economics alone.It means, materials, funds, employees and the facilities used in achieving goals set by the health care organization. While the term cost means something differently when separating health care and economics it all ties in when they are applied together in an organization. Cost means the funds used to deliver health care or when a patient is trying to access health care. Costs can also be rejected when making decisions about health care. Quality means to give the best possible when delivering care to a patient as well as when making decisions about a health care organization.All of these terms are the same in making health care economical decisions. We depend on all the terms in this paper when trying to make an ethical decision as it relates to health care and health care organizations. The essence of health care economics is simply trade or making a buck (Getzen, 2007). Cormac Mccarthy’s the Road- Theme of Hope

The Road is set sometime in the future after a global catastrophe. The Road follows the story of a nameless father and son, possibly the last of the â€Å"good guys†, as they travel along an abandoned stretch of highway populated with occasional marauders and cannibals. The post-apocalyptic setting plays upon the public’s fear of terrorism, pandemics, genocide, and weapons of mass destruction. Since the cause of the destruction remains unanswered, it is left open to the mind to make assumptions.The Roadi is set somewhere in the south eastern United States. There is mention of distant mountains, several rivers and creeks, and a coastline. The landscape and the air are soaked in thick, gray ash. Vegetation has been destroyed. There are no fish in the water. When snow falls, it collects the ash in the air and falls to the earth already gray. The setting is the main antagonist in the book, because it is the number one adversity the father and son have to endure. This create s the theme as the father continually struggles to keep his faith and â€Å"carry the fire†.The hardship he faces with his son makes him question his faith in humanity and god, but in the end, it is his son who makes him see that your can always have hope in the most difficult of times. The boy and the man continually search among the debris in the aftermath of the cataclysmic event for morsels of food and warmth. Though they are forced to breathe thick ash in the air and travel in constant cold, they continually trudge forward. It is apparent that the father is slowly losing his faith in humanity and their situation, and parts of him wish it could just all be over.They must find food and clean water, and they must constantly hide. There are marauding groups of cannibals who look upon the man and boy as nothing more than meat. The lone bullet in the man’s gun is saved for the boy, who has been instructed on how to kill himself should something happen to the man. This y oung boy, the only hope in a dismal environment, is all that matters to the man. â€Å"You know how to do it. You put it in your mouth and point it up. Do it quick and hard. Do you understand? Stop crying. Do you understand? † (113).This shows that the father does not trust his son to be able to survive in this environment, and he would much rather have him die easily than have to attempt survival and risk suffering. The man and boy encounter few people in this story. Most of Abraham 2 those they do come across are brutish because everyone is starving and fighting for survival. Almost all the people in this story are constantly on the move. The father trusts no one, his goal is to make it to the south, to the coastline. However, neither warmth nor bounties of food are found once the man and the boy finally reach the edge of the water.The shoreline is just as cold as the mountains were, and everything is the same: drained of life, bitterly cold, and hopeless. Though the boy wa nts to write a message in the sand to the â€Å"good guys† the father finds it hard to stay positive. â€Å"What if the bad guys saw it? †¦ I shouldn’t have said that, we could write them a letter† (245). Though through it all the boy is still able to hold on to hope that there is still good in the world. Yet, father also starts to question his faith in god, which contributes to his pessimistic attitude.The father subconsciously focuses attention on the questions of God, does he exist? If so, is he present, or has he vacated the premises? Is he good? Does he care? It become clear that the father’s faith in god is shaky after all the incidences he has witnessed. In one case, when he meets an elderly blind man, the father tells him how only god could know what is going to happen. The blind man then says, â€Å"There is no god and we are his prophets† (170). This shows that the old man has lost all faith in god. He believes that they have been le ft there to fend for themselves.The father says nothing to oppose the statement and seems to push it in to the back of his mind. The old man later mention, â€Å"Where men can’t live gods fare no better† (172). Referring to how it is near impossible to keep your faith in such hard times. Later in the novel when they find a flare gun, the father shoots it off as a celebration. His son asks if anyone could see it, to which the father asks â€Å"Like god? † (246). The flare is symbolic in the sense that they shot it in to nothing but smog and pollution but could still make it out, even though no one from any further away would be able to.This make the father realize that god can work in the same way, and even though you can’t see him, he could still be present. Over time, the boy’s optimism starts to work on the fathers hope in the future. He starts to trust in his son and understands that he is able to make the right decisions. He also regains some o f his hope for the future through it all. â€Å"We’re still here. Alot of bad things Abraham 3 have happened but we’re still here† (269) His love for his son continues to make him strong and he braves each day even though he knows he will die soon from sickness.At one point the boy asks him what the bravest thing he has ever done was. The man replies, â€Å"Getting up this morning† (272). In time the father comes to see how much his son has matured and is able to make the right decisions. The father notices how the boy always went out of his way to help people and had a good moral compass. The child begged to give food to the old man even though they knew he would die, as well as returning clothes to a thief even though he didn’t deserve it. The father tells the boy that he has been carrying the fire himself this whole time inside of him, â€Å"It’s inside you. It was always there. I can see it† (279).In the end, the father realizes t hat he must trust his son to survive on his own and that there is hope for the future. He promises the boy that he will never leave him, but he cannot keep death at bay. The man finally succumbs. And the boy still young in years, but aged through his challenging experiences must find his own way. Despite the setting, the father learned from his son that you can always keep hope alive, no matter how hard times get. â€Å"You have my whole heart. You always did. You’re the best guy. You always were. If I’m not here you can still talk to me. You can talk to me and I’ll talk to you. You’ll see† (279).
